“Ronaldo is a player, as always, that has an ego," said Tony Cascarino
LONDON: Former professional footballer Tony Cascarino claimed that Cristiano Ronaldo fears of losing his Champions League goalscoring record to Lionel Messi as his club Manchester United failed to qualify for Europe's mega football event.
According to Mirror, Cascarino shared that Ronaldo is desperate to exit United who performed below the par in Premier League last year which cost them Champions League spot.
However, Messi, who is just 16 goals behind Ronaldo's 141, is likely to break his record when he represents Paris Saint German football club this year.
“Ronaldo is a player, as always, that has an ego. A lot of it is about him but the teams he’s played in have been successful, so you always go with that as a team player," Cascarino said.
“I said to you off-air, I’m a bit suspicious because he’s got 141 goals in the Champions League. Messi has got 125. He doesn’t want to not play Champions League football because he wants to be the greatest Champions League goalscorer of all time and that’s how Ronaldo is made," he added.
Ronaldo is Champions League's all-time highest goal scorer with 141 goals spread over his 19 years professional career.
