"We have made an offer for the player," said Barcelona president Laporta
FC Barcelona have made a bid for Bayern Munich's prolific Polish attacker Robert Lewandowski.
The 33-year-old has been a member of Bayern since 2014, although he declared in May that his time there is "finished."
"We have made an offer for the player, we are waiting for the response, we will see if it is positive," Barcelona's president Joan Laporta said on Thursday.
Lewandowski's Bayern contract has one year left on it.
Laporta declined to go into specifics about Barca's offer, but it has been claimed that they have offered £33.8 million for the player, plus a £4.2 million incentive.
Barcelona has denied rumours that Bayern sought upfront cash for the acquisition of Lewandowski because they were concerned about Barca's financial predicament.
In 252 games over the course of eight years, Lewandowski has scored 238 league goals for Bayern, helping the team to eight Bundesliga championships and the Champions League.
