PSG sacks Mauricio Pochettino, appoints Christophe Galtier as manager

"Paris Saint-Germain confirm that Mauricio Pochettino has ended his role at the club," PSG said in a statement

Paris Saint-Germain sacked Mauricio Pochettino on Tuesday, replacing him with Christophe Galtier.

A two-year contract with Galtier is in place through the summer of 2024.

After leading Nice to fifth place in Ligue 1 and a second-place finish in the French Cup the previous season, he left the club last month.

Since Qatari investors acquired PSG in 2011, the 55-year-old, who guided Lille to the Ligue 1 championship in 2021, has served as the club's sixth manager.

"I am delighted to join Paris Saint-Germain, I would like to thank the chairman Nasser Al-Khelaifi, [football advisor] Luis Campos, and the club for their confidence in me," said Galtier.

"I am fully aware of the responsibilities involved to coach this extraordinary team, which is one of the most competitive and spectacular squads in Europe."

Pochettino leaves PSG after only 18 months in charge after leading them to their first league championship and a record-tying 10th French championship last season.

The departure of the former Tottenham manager had been anticipated for about a month, but it wasn't made public until right before Galtier's hiring was official on Tuesday.
